Visiiri portal

The goal of the Visiiri project is to promote understanding, measurement, and comparability of the environmental impacts of the ICT sector. A key starting point is the need to jointly develop methods for assessing the energy consumption of ICT systems as well as their climate and environmental impacts. The project examines both the ICT sector’s own footprint and the positive impacts it enables in various sectors, such as transportation, logistics, construction, manufacturing, and energy production.

The Visiiri portal, developed by the University of Turku, operates as a separate entity from the project’s main website, bringing together the results of the work package led by the University of Turku. As a result of the work package, methods have been identified and developed to measure the environmental impacts of the ICT sector in order to improve the energy efficiency of ICT systems.

The portal contains technical documentation for research, development, and educational use, which goes beyond the self-study materials produced during the project. The content is specifically aimed at ICT experts, students, researchers, and organizations that need practical tools for assessing energy efficiency and measuring environmental impacts.

The main sections of the site are:

  • Documentation on energy measurement, the measurement laboratory and measurement process concepts developed in the project.
  • Benchmark database for analyzing and comparing the power consumption of ICT systems.
  • A comprehensive documentation site for the PowerGoblin tool.
  • Hands-on guides, sample scripts, and method descriptions for implementing energy measurement as part of software development and research.

The materials on this portal are based on the research and development work carried out during the Visiiri project. The goal is to provide openly accessible methods and practical tools that can be used to measure the energy efficiency of ICT solutions in a systematic, transparent, and comparable manner.
